7OH in Canada: What It Is and Where the Law Stands

7OH is the short name for 7-hydroxymitragynine. Searches for it in Canada have jumped in the past year, and many of the pages answering those searches are trying to sell it to you.

We do not sell 7OH. We sell plain kratom leaf and nothing else. This page explains what 7OH is, how Canadian rules handle it, what has changed in the United States, and why we stay away from it.

Status at a glance
In Canadian law
Not a controlled substance. Neither 7OH nor mitragynine is listed in the CDSA schedules.
With Health Canada
Not approved as a food, natural health product or medicine.
In the United States
DEA has proposed controlling 7-OH above a threshold, and has temporarily scheduled three related lab-made compounds.
At this shop
We do not sell it. Plain milled kratom leaf only.
THE BASICS

What 7OH actually is

7OH is one of the natural chemicals found in kratom leaf. In plain leaf there is very little of it, usually well under a tenth of one percent.

The products sold as 7OH tablets, shots or gummies are not leaf. They are made by taking that one chemical and concentrating it, or by starting with a different kratom chemical called mitragynine and converting it in a lab. Either way, the result is far more concentrated than anything the plant makes on its own.

1

The leaf

Dried and milled kratom leaf, with 7OH present only in trace amounts.

2

Isolated or converted

One chemical is extracted, or mitragynine is chemically converted in a lab.

3

The 7OH product

Tablets, shots or gummies built around that one concentrated chemical.

So plain leaf and a 7OH tablet are different products, even though both trace back to the same tree. That difference is the reason regulators handle them differently.

THE DIFFERENCE

7OH compared with plain kratom leaf

Side by side, the two are different products with different questions around them.

CANADA

Where Canadian law stands on 7OH

Canada is not the United States, and the position here is different.

Not a controlled substance

Neither 7-hydroxymitragynine nor mitragynine is listed in the schedules to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Buying or owning it is not against the law here.

Not approved by Health Canada

Kratom and its natural chemicals are not approved as a food, natural health product or medicine, so no seller can lawfully sell 7OH or plain kratom as something to eat or drink.

Other rules still apply

The Food and Drugs Act, natural health product rules, customs at the border and provincial requirements. Quebec, for example, requires French labelling.

Want a definite answer about a specific substance?

Health Canada’s Controlled Substances Directorate offers a status determination process that confirms whether a substance not listed by name in the CDSA schedules is controlled. That is the authoritative source, not us and not any other seller.

UNITED STATES

What has changed in the US, in order

The United States and Florida have moved on concentrated and lab-made material. Here is what happened and when.

August 13, 2025

Florida

Florida’s Attorney General issued an emergency rule making isolated and concentrated 7-OH a Schedule I substance in the state.

June 2026

Florida

A further Florida emergency rule extended limits to compounds related to 7-OH.

July 6, 2026

United States

The DEA published a notice of intent to temporarily place 7-OH above a specified threshold in Schedule I. The proposed threshold for plant material is 0.05% 7-OH by dry weight, and 0.05% or 1 milligram per article for processed products.

August 26, 2026

United States

The DEA temporarily placed three related lab-made compounds in Schedule I: mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, MGM-15 and MGM-16. The order runs until August 26, 2028 unless extended.

September 15, 2026

Status when reviewed

The temporary order for 7-OH itself had not been published. The public comment period on its proposed threshold ran to September 10, 2026.

What this means for plain leaf

The US proposal is aimed at concentrated and processed 7-OH products. Plant material at or below the proposed 0.05% threshold falls outside it. Canada has taken neither step, and Canadian rules have sometimes followed decisions made elsewhere, so it is worth watching Health Canada’s own updates.

OUR POSITION

Why we don't sell 7OH

We sell plain milled kratom leaf and nothing else. That is a deliberate choice, and it will stay that way unless the rules become settled and independent batch testing reaches the standard we already apply to leaf.

  • The rules are not settled

Regulators in the United States are still deciding how to handle 7-OH, and the direction is towards control.

  • Testing is not settled

Methods for checking concentrated 7OH products are still being worked out. Leaf can be tested against established methods.

  • It is a different product

A concentrate is not what we sell, and we are not going to blur that line to follow search trends.

If you do buy 7OH from someone else, ask for a lab certificate covering the exact batch you are buying, from an independent lab. A certificate proves what was tested. It does not decide whether something is legal, and no seller’s wording can.

WHAT WE DO SELL

Looking for plain kratom leaf?

If you came here searching for 7OH but what you actually want is plain leaf, that is what we carry: red, green, white and yellow strains, all plain milled leaf, every batch tested by an outside lab for heavy metals, bacteria, mould and pesticides.

Same-day delivery across the GTA and the towns around it, and tracked shipping to every postal code in Canada.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Have a question about what we sell? Text (647) 330-9497 or email us. A person answers, with a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.

It is not a controlled substance here. Neither 7-hydroxymitragynine nor mitragynine is listed in the schedules to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Health Canada has not approved it as a food, natural health product or medicine, so it cannot lawfully be sold for consumption.

Has the United States banned 7OH?

Not in full. In July 2026 the DEA published a notice of intent to temporarily place 7-OH above a threshold in Schedule I. When this page was last reviewed on September 15, 2026, that order had not been published. In August 2026 the DEA did temporarily schedule three related lab-made compounds: mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, MGM-15 and MGM-16.

Does the US proposal cover plain kratom leaf?

The DEA’s proposed threshold for plant material is 0.05% 7-OH by dry weight. Plant material at or below that level falls outside it. The proposal is aimed at concentrated and processed products.

What has Florida done?

In August 2025 Florida’s Attorney General made isolated and concentrated 7-OH a Schedule I substance in the state by emergency rule, and a further emergency rule in June 2026 extended limits to related compounds.

Has Canada done the same?

No. Canada has not scheduled 7OH or mitragynine. Canadian rules have sometimes followed decisions made elsewhere, so it is worth watching.

Do you sell 7OH, 7OHMZ or extracts?

No. We sell plain milled kratom leaf and nothing else.

What is the difference between 7OH and kratom?

Kratom is the dried leaf of a tree. 7OH is one chemical from that leaf, sold concentrated or lab-made. Related, but not the same product.

What is the difference between mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine?

Both are natural chemicals in kratom leaf. Mitragynine is the most common. 7-hydroxymitragynine occurs in trace amounts. We make no claims about what either does.

Health Canada’s Controlled Substances Directorate offers a status determination process that confirms whether a substance not listed by name in the CDSA schedules is controlled. That is the authoritative source. No seller, including us, can decide it for you.

Will you stock 7OH later?

Only if the rules become settled and independent batch testing reaches the standard we already apply to leaf. Neither is true today.
