Can You Buy Kratom on Amazon in Canada?
Can you buy kratom on Amazon in Canada? No. In short, Amazon does not allow kratom sales. In fact, its seller rules for drugs and drug paraphernalia ban kratom and products that contain it. So if you search “kratom” on Amazon, you will mostly see books, other supplements, kava, and tea or “botanical” products whose labels do not say what is inside. Anything that does claim to be kratom has slipped past Amazon’s own rules, so you cannot rely on it.
Why Amazon Does Not Sell Kratom
Amazon decides what outside sellers may list, and it keeps a list of restricted and banned products. Kratom falls under its rules for drugs and drug paraphernalia, so sellers cannot list it. As a result, Amazon takes kratom listings down, and sellers who keep trying can lose their accounts. Industry guides also date this ban to around 2012.
In Canada, there is a second reason. Health Canada has not authorized any product containing kratom for sale as a health product. So a large retailer like Amazon has no reason to carry kratom in Canada.
What You Find When You Search "Kratom" on Amazon
- Books about kratom, which Amazon allows.
- Other plants such as kava, which is a different plant from a different family. See our kratom vs kava comparison.
- “Botanical” or “herbal” blends that use kratom-style strain names, like “Maeng Da” or “Red Bali”, but never name the plant on the label.
- Accessories, for example scales, capsule machines and empty capsules.
Banned products do sometimes slip through large marketplaces. For example, in 2020 an investigation by The Markup found nearly 100 listings for products that Amazon’s own rules ban. Also, a listing that breaks those rules can disappear at any time, and there is no lab report behind it.
The Real Risk With Marketplace "Kratom"
The issue is not convenience; it is proof. When a product hides what it is to get past a marketplace filter, you cannot check:
- if it contains kratom at all;
- where it came from and how old it is;
- whether an outside lab tested it for heavy metals, bacteria and mould;
- who to contact if something is wrong.
A specialist seller should answer all four. For instance, an outside lab tests every batch we sell, and you can ask us for the certificate for your batch. Our lab results page walks through a full report. In addition, how to read a certificate of analysis shows what to look for on anyone’s report.
Where Canadians Buy Kratom Instead
Since Amazon is not an option, kratom buyers in Canada use three other routes:
- Canadian online kratom stores that ship within Canada. This route gives the widest choice and, from good stores, a lab report for each batch.
- Same-day delivery in the GTA. For example, we deliver the same day to most addresses in 28 cities around Toronto.
- Some smoke shops and convenience stores, where choice and paperwork vary.
We compare all three, with a checklist for judging a seller, in Where to Buy Kratom in Canada. To see our strains and sizes, from 50 g to 1 kg, visit the shop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amazon Canada sell kratom?
No. Amazon’s seller rules ban kratom on Amazon in Canada and elsewhere. Products that appear under kratom-style names are either other products or listings that break Amazon’s rules, and they come with no test results.
Why did Amazon ban kratom?
Because Amazon places kratom under its rules for drugs and drug paraphernalia, sellers cannot list it. Industry guides date the change to around 2012.
Is the "Maeng Da" or "Red Bali" on Amazon real kratom?
You cannot tell. Those are kratom strain names. However, a listing that avoids naming the plant to pass a filter cannot show a lab report for what is inside.
Can I buy kratom at Walmart or a supermarket in Canada?
No. Mainstream stores also do not stock kratom. Instead, Canadians buy it from specialist kratom stores, mostly online.
Is it legal to buy kratom online in Canada?
Adults can buy and own kratom in Canada. Health Canada has not approved it for eating or drinking, so Canadian stores that follow the rules sell it as a botanical product with no health claims. Read Is kratom legal in Canada? for the details.
