How to check the lab certificate
Every batch has its own lab certificate. When you read one, check three things:
- First, look for the lab’s name and the test date.
- Then check the results for heavy metals, bacteria and mould.
- Finally, look at the alkaloid content, which shows how much mitragynine the batch has.

How we source and select this strain
Hulu refers to the Hulu Kapuas area along the Kapuas river in Indonesian Borneo, which is where the name comes from. The leaf is dried under cover rather than in open sun, then milled and sieved. We buy one harvest per batch instead of mixing several harvests together, so what you receive stays consistent from the top of the bag to the bottom.
Before a batch is listed, we check it against the same standards every time. We look at the colour and the grind, we confirm the batch matches the paperwork the grower sent, and we send a sample to an outside laboratory. If a batch fails any part of that check, we do not sell it. That is the whole selection process, and it is the reason this listing sometimes goes out of stock rather than being topped up with leaf from somewhere else.

Keeping it fresh
Keep the pouch closed and store it somewhere cool, dark and dry, such as a cupboard away from the stove, the kettle and the window. Heat, damp and direct sunlight are what change a botanical powder over time, so the original resealable pouch is the best thing to keep it in. Press the air out before you reseal it. Stored that way, in a dry room, a sealed pouch keeps its colour and smell for a long time. Keep it well out of reach of children and pets.
